The celebrated Halloween series began in 1978 with Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode and has produced a total of 13 parts. Curtis returns for the seventh time in Halloween Ends to face the masked serial killer Michael Myers.
Four years after her last encounter with Michael Myers, Laurie Strode works through her memories and writes them down in her memoirs. She wants to finally drive his ghost out of her subconscious and leave the fear behind. But the small town of Haddonfield is doing everything it can to make it happen to create a new monster.
Corey (Rohan Campbell) is the town’s whipping boy. At first Laurie is worried about the boy, but gradually she also believes that she is discovering the evil in him. It doesn’t make things any easier that her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) has a crush on Corey.
Halloween Ends: Refreshingly different or a big disappointment?
The first ten minutes of Halloween Ends are a great start that horror fans shouldn’t miss. After that, the focus is on character development, especially on the outsider Corey, and makes us forget what genre we’re actually in. That’s right It only gets bloody from the second half onwards of the 111-minute film. Then Halloween Ends delivers slasher moments and a usual silent Michael Myers who pulls out the knife.
The fact that the big monster is dealt with in a completely different way than in previous parts has divided the fan base. Refreshingsay some, unacceptablethe others. Maybe Halloween Ends works better if you have it viewed as a film in its own right and not as part of a series.
