The American dream is traditionally about achieving success and prosperity through hard work, regardless of background. It often includes the opportunity to own a home, have a stable career and be able to give their children a better life.
– I probably haven’t believed in the American dream for a long time. Especially not when you live here and see people fighting on every street corner, says Jacob Ezra, one of the young Americans that SVT’s team meets in Chicago.
In a situation where it is currently very even between the candidates, the young Americans, if they go and vote, can decide the election, says SVT’s USA correspondent Fouad Youcefi.
The Democrats’ Kamala Harris has a lead in the 18-34 age group according to a recent survey from CNBC.
– If more young people go and vote than in the last election, then they will probably decide the election in Harris’s favor, says Youcefi.
SVT’s reporter Sebastian Strandberg took to the streets of Chicago to ask young voters if the American dream is alive – and got to experience his own American dream by trying the city’s famous ‘deep dish pizza’.
