The Red Cross Disregard for the Rules of War in

Director of the International Red Cross Mirjana Spoljaric criticizes disregard for internationally agreed rules of war.

A record number of more than 120 armed conflicts are raging in the world. Many don’t show any attempt to save civilians, says Spoljaric.

According to him, the current number of civilian victims and refugees is unacceptable.

The rules of war, such as the Geneva Conventions, are intended to protect civilians and limit the means of warfare. For example, hospitals should be respected and prisoners of war treated well,

Spoljaric translates the idea that the enemy must be completely destroyed.

– It is against the spirit of humanitarian law to dehumanize another for the sake of one’s own safety.
