Quentin Tarantino names his favorite Jason Statham film – and his choice makes total sense
As Far Out magazine reports, cult director Quentin Tarantino revealed in a 2016 interview with Den of Geek that he was a big one Fan of action star Jason Statham be. He also answered the question about his favorite film:
That’s a pretty good question. I think it would have to be… let me think about it. It would have to be Snatch.
It makes sense that a director like Quentin Tarantino, who is known for films like Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction, would be enthusiastic about Guy Ritchie’s 2001 gangster film Snatch.
The parallels between Snatch – Pigs and Diamonds and Tarantino’s own works are obvious. In both Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction there are several parallel storylines, each set in a criminal underworld and connecting towards the end of the film. The films’ casual tone also has an undeniable similarity.
This is also the case in Snatch: Pigs and Diamonds: Jason Statham played the main role of Turkish, a promoter for illegal boxing competitions, whose assistant Tommy gets him into financial difficulties with the feared gang boss Brick Top.
For the then relatively unknown actor Jason Statham, Snatch was a success as the film was well received both at the box office and critically and expanded Statham’s profile. His big break came a short time later when he took on the lead role in The Transporter.
Both Quentin Tarantino fans and die-hard Jason Statham audiences are speculating on a joint film project between the two Hollywood greats. However, since Tarantino has announced that he will soon retire from the film business and his current plans do not include Statham, the stars are rather bad for a collaboration.
