Colds, sore throats, flu… In autumn and even more so in winter, viruses circulate and risk contaminating us. How to protect and heal yourself naturally? Here are the tips from Dr Laure Martinat, doctor and expert in phyto-aromatherapy and micronutrition.
At the end of the year, viruses are circulating more and more intensely and the risk of catching a cold, sore throat or the flu is greater. How to take care of yourself when you are sick? And how to protect yourself from these winter infections?
Here are the tips from Laure Martinat, doctor, expert in phyto-aromatherapy and micronutrition, who is preparing to publish the book Family Health Guide published by Mango on November 22 (book available for pre-order). A wealth of (precious) advice for naturally treating many pathologies such as dermatological conditions, cardiovascular, digestive system conditions, etc.
Different natural active ingredients can help you treat yourself in winter
Against all ENT conditions, Dr Laure Martinat recommends propolis, a beehive product. It has anti-inflammatory, anti-infectious and anti-viral properties. “Propolis has a strong local action which accelerates the healing of ENT conditions. explains Laure Martinat. “It is available in spray, which allows it to be sprayed directly into the throat and to have a strong local action.. Propolis is also sold in the form of capsules to swallow, if its taste is too strong.
Thyme is also a plant that helps you heal in winter. “THE thyme has antiseptic and expectorant properties, an infusion of thyme will help you better clear your phlegmin case of wet cough, in particular” says our expert.
Black elderflower, as an infusion, is also recommended by Laure Martinat. “It helps fight against all ENT infections and can be given without problem to children, adults and also pregnant women.. Elderflower contains mucilage, which will soften the irritated throat mucosa.
Finally, cypress is a useful plant against winter viruses. “We will use cypress nut which is a key plant against ENT infections. explains the specialist again. “To do this, you must use standardized fresh plant extract, which can be found in pharmacies.“. She recommends taking 5mL three times a day, diluted in a little water or fruit juice. “It can also be given to children, at a rate of 1 mL per 10 kg of weight, three times a day too.
In prevention, what plants can help us?
To avoid getting sick, our expert recommends drinking thyme infusions regularly. “And if you know you are fragile, you can take an echinacea cure, using the root to stimulate your immunity. Here again, it will be found in pharmacies in the form of a standardized fresh plant extract.
Laure Martinat recommends taking 5mL three times a day, diluted in a little water or fruit juice, again. And in children from three years old, 1 mL per 10 kg of weight, three times a day too. “You have to take courses of treatment, for two weeks for example, then continue for two weeks, alternating every other day, before stopping completely” concludes the specialist.
