“Iran has the right and obligation to defend itself against foreign attacks,” Iran’s foreign ministry said in a statement, citing UN Article 51.
Israel’s attack on Iran is said to be limited to military targets, including several of the country’s weapons factories. According to the Iranian army, two soldiers were killed in the overnight attack.
The night’s attack was a response to Iran’s repeated attacks and the robot attack just over a month ago.
Both the US and UK urge Iran not to retaliate.
“We call on Iran to cease its attacks on Israel so that this cycle of violence can be ended without further escalation,” said Sean Savett, spokesman for the US National Security Council.
