A church can be a place for politics. Living Hope Church in Athens I Georgia is conservative and here David Holt is the pastor. For him, the Bible and faith in God are the most important guides in life.
But that doesn’t mean that politics is unimportant to the pastor. On the contrary. It is through politics that God’s purpose can be implemented, Holt reasons. For him, it is important that a Christian asks himself which values are important.
– What ideas does the party have that I’m going to vote for? Which ones agree with the words of the Bible? God’s word is eternal. I think the Republican Party is the most consistent with the words of the Bible, says Holt.
Fewer wars under Trump’s presidency
Pastor David Holt is against abortion, gender reassignment and same-sex marriage. For him, it’s about moral issues that can be pushed through a politician like Donald Trump.
Holt thinks the US economy was better last time Trump was president. Then young people could afford to buy their home, but it’s not at all a matter of course anymore, he notes. Pastor David also highlights that there were fewer wars during Trump’s last presidency.
“There is a lot in his personality that I don’t like”
The white revivalists were important to Trump’s victory in 2016 and they stuck with him in 2020. In this group, 80 percent voted for Trump. His personality, use of language and approach to women must be taken, says pastor David.
– There is much in his personality that I do not like. It should be different. But it is what it is. I appreciate that you know what you are getting. Trump is not trying to be a typical politician who says what you want to hear, he says.
Another reason why many conservative Christians stick with Donald Trump is that he has delivered things that are popular with the group. Most important is the appointment of three conservative judges to the Supreme Court, which means that the majority of the lifetime judges will push a conservative line for a long time to come.
This is prized by the conservative Christians and may decide this election as well.
