luxury car brand Rolls-Royceintroduced the special Phantom extended model in honor of the 60th anniversary of the movie Goldfinger.
Rolls-Royce, which continues to be one of the most special brands in the automobile world, said the following about its new model: “Rolls-Royce Motor Cars introduced the Phantom Extended model, of which it designed just one example, paying homage to the 1964 James Bond movie Goldfinger. The unique piece is one of twelve Rolls-Royce appearances in the 007 film series. Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the film, inspiration was taken from the 1937 Phantom III Sedanca de Ville owned by the legendary villain Auric Goldfinger. The car, created with innovative features that skillfully integrate with the film’s story and symbols, stands out as one of the most comprehensive engineering works applied to a motor vehicle in Rolls-Royce history. Developing the stylish and fun features took three years of meticulous work in total.

The exterior design of the modern Goldfinger monument bears the iconic yellow color of the 1937 Phantom III Sedanca de Ville used in the film. The elegant harmony of black and yellow colors combines with the long side lines of the vehicle. Developed for the film, the ‘long side’ two-tone design wraps the wide body of the vehicle with a black finish in a single seamless graphic. The 21-inch disc wheels are finished with black and silver ‘floating’ hubcaps, referencing the design of the 1937 model seen in the film. In the movie, the villain Auric Goldfinger used the Phantom’s body panels to smuggle gold. Rolls-Royce experts expertly crafted the Spirit of Ecstasy figure from solid silver and plated it with 18-carat gold. Gold details were skillfully revealed in certain parts of the figure.
The hidden gold details in the vehicle interior design refer to Auric Goldfinger’s character and the prominent scenes of the movie. The 18-karat gold case on the front console resembles a treasure hidden in the center of the car. On the inside of the glove box is Goldfinger’s famous line: “This is gold, Mr. Bond. The sentence “I have loved its shine and weight all my life” is embossed.
The hand-drawn three-dimensional design was designed as a delicate yet artistic map showing the isohips map of the Furka Pass. In the film, 007 secretly follows Auric Goldfinger on this legendary road. The color of the stainless steel used in the construction of the piece was darkened using a method called physical vapor deposition. The Furka Passage was cut from the stainless steel layer, revealing the gold-plated surface underneath.
The motor vehicle pays another subtle homage to the unforgettable Furka Pass scene. The brand’s dedicated collective designed Phantom Goldfinger’s Starry Headgear to accurately reflect the position of the constellations above the Furka Pass on July 11, 1964. This date was the last day the scene was filmed in Switzerland. The 719 stars, shining in a golden hue, are also surrounded by eight ‘shooting stars’, all placed by hand. Royal walnut picnic tables are adorned with 22 carat gold plating that is only 0.1mm deep. It includes a map depicting the fictional location of Fort Knox, the hiding place of the United States’ gold reserves.
Auric Goldfinger is seen playing golf during his first encounter with James Bond. A gold-plated golf club placed on the trunk lid as one of the souvenirs from Phantom Goldfinger pays homage to this important moment. The golf club, together with its bag, opens towards the back of the trunk with a special mechanism. With the press of a button, a shiny golf club appears in the opened trunk. Complementing the interior of the Rolls-Royce is a special set of blue and gold umbrellas, which both reference Goldfinger’s pivotal scene on the Goldfinger set and function to protect the gold details that could be damaged by the wind.”
