Truls Möregårdh has really become a favorite with the Swedish people.
Now he himself gets to choose who is Sweden’s best athlete ever.
But then he chooses the childhood idol Jan-Ove Waldner.
He won the hearts of the Swedish people during the Summer Olympics. Truls Möregårdh managed to create ping pong fever throughout Sweden after his unparalleled exploits in Paris.
Möregårdh appoints
The 22-year-old went to the double finals in table tennis, but in both singles and teams he had to settle for two consecutive Olympic silver medals. Möregårdh was nevertheless hailed as a great hero when he returned home to Swedish soil again.

Now Truls is the big poster name when kids flock to the table tennis clubs to start playing. The table tennis icon Jan-Ove Waldner praised Truls Möregårdh to the skies during the summer and sees him as a worthy heir to himself.
– Everyone sits and watches. It’s Trul’s (merit) and how he is as a player. He has a nice charisma, plays a fun table tennis and builds it up well. Everyone knows his first name now, before it was Zlatan, now it’s Truls, said JO about the great success.

But when Möregårdh himself gets to choose who is Sweden’s greatest sportsman of all time, it is not the good Waldner he chooses. But instead the great role model Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
– He is our greatest athlete of all time in Sweden, if you ask me. He’s damn cool, I’ve looked up to him, says Truls to SVT.

Now the table tennis star hopes to meet the idol Zlatan in a match at the ping pong table.
– It would have been a big dream to play table tennis with Zlatan, he says to the TV channel and has also tried to reach him but without luck.
– He is difficult for everyone in Sweden to reach and that is probably the thing – that he is a bit mysterious and that you have to have that respect for him.
