The fantasy saga The Witcher is facing a major upheaval. From the upcoming 4th season, the grumpy witcher Geralt of Rivia will no longer be played by Henry Cavill, but by Liam Hemsworth. It was recently announced that another star had to leave the Netflix series and his role would be recast for season 4.
The Witcher Season 4 replaces Geralt’s mentor Vesemir
Unfortunately, reshuffles are not uncommon in The Witcher. Most recently, villain Rience was replaced in season 3 due to scheduling difficulties for the original actor. As the always well-informed site Redanian Intelligence reports, it’s true in season 4 now also Geralt’s father figure Vesemir.
Season 4 will see a reunion with several members of Geralt’s witcher family from Kaer Morhen, who we last saw in Season 2. While Yasen Zates Atour and Paul Bullion will be seen again as Coen and Lambert, Vesemir will have changed appearance. Because the Danish actor Kim Bodnia is not returning in the role.
The Reason for Kim Bodnia’s exit A rep for the star tells Radio Times:
Kim [Bodnia] will not return as Vesemir, there his current filming schedule does not match Netflix’s filming schedule for The Witcher Season 4.Kim Bodnia’s portrayal of the powerful Witcher leader is considered a highlight of Season 2 of Netflix’s The Witcher, which was met with controversy by many fans due to its drastic book changes. A reunion between Vesemir and Geralt in season 4 could be correspondingly emotional – even if both characters are now played by completely new actors. It is not yet known who will take on the role in the new episodes. When does The Witcher season 4 start on Netflix?
Filming for the new The Witcher episodes, which has been ongoing since April 2024, should be completed in a few days. With a view to the previous releases of the fantasy series, season 4 should be in Summer or fall 2025 on Netflix get started.
