Security has been increased in the Riksdag ahead of today’s debate on the situation in the Middle East. Among other things, the police will be present.

The debate is held on the initiative of the Left Party and Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) will be present.

Security in the Riksdag has been increased after she was forced to run out of a debate three weeks ago when someone threw a bag of tomatoes and onions at her.

One measure taken by the Riksdag has been to set up a net at the audience stand. During today’s debate, the police will also strengthen security work. The police, for example, have more far-reaching possibilities to search audience members than the guards have.

According to information to TT, the tomato attack has led to the fact that the Riksdag will generally work much closer to the police. Before next year, the security measures will also be increased further and become “even stricter” according to a source, who does not want to go into exactly how.
