Passenger trains have derailed in Northern Norway

A train with between 50 and 70 people on board has derailed along the Norwegian Nordlandsbanan.
Pictures published by NRK show that several carriages are lying on their side outside the track.
– Preliminary information is that no one is seriously injured, says SJ’s press officer Eva Paulsen to VG.

Emergency services are said to be on site. Rescue and ambulance helicopters are on their way from Bodø and Brønnøysund.

The Nordlandsbanan railway runs between Trondheim and Bodø in northern Norway. The stretch between Bjerka and Mo i Rana is said to be closed as a result of the derailment.

– We can confirm that there has been a disaster alarm at our place. The emergency management has met and is working to get an overview of the situation, says Snorre Nicolaisen, press spokesperson at Helgeland Hospital, to The daily newspaper.
