Swedish climate emissions are increasing sharply | SVT News

Emissions from the Swedish economy increase by 5.6 percent during the second quarter of the year, compared to the same quarter in 2023.

This is shown by figures from Statistics Norway, Statistics Sweden.

It is primarily emissions from households, the construction industry and the transport industry that are increasing, the authority states.

– The second quarter of 2024 has the highest emissions for a second quarter since 2021. Compared to the second quarter of 2023, emissions have increased by 5.6 percent, says Johanna Takman, analyst at Statistics Sweden’s environmental accounts in a press release.

Statistics Sweden notes that the reduction obligation, i.e. the proportion of biofuels in petrol and diesel, changed at the turn of the year.

“The increase in emissions from construction, households and the transport industry can be linked to increased deliveries of fossil diesel”, writes Statistics Sweden in the press release.
