(Finance) – Il Advise of the Communications Regulatory Authority (AGCOM) has rejected Commissioner Elisa Giomi’s proposal to suspend the activity of the Piracy Shield platformthe anti-piracy platform that accidentally blocked downloads from Google Drive for hours last Saturday. It wasn’t the first time the platform, designed to limit illegal playback of live games, films and paid programs, mistakenly blocked the wrong site.
The commissioner Antonello Giacomelli did not participate in the votingwe read in the AGCOM note, according to which – to date – the Piracy Shield platform has allowed the disabling of over 25,000 FQDNs and over 7,000 IPv4.
Furthermore, in light of the technical report presented by the competent offices on the event that occurred on Saturday evening, the Council has decided to warn DAZN as an accredited reporter on the platform Piracy Shield, to ensure maximum diligence and rigor in the submission of blocking requests and in the collection of related evidence. The Authority has reserved the right to take all relevant measures in the event of non-compliance.
The Authority, taking into account the innovations introduced by the omnibus decree, which clarified the list of subjects required to register on the platform, also addressed a recall (Commissioner Elisa Giomi did not participate in the vote) to all categories of subjects to take steps to obtain accreditation, in compliance with the legislative provisions to the Piracy Shield platform. These are search engine operators and information society service providers involved in any capacity in the accessibility of the website or illegal services, including providers of publicly available VPN and DNS services, wherever resident and wherever localized.
