Get your way – with a dance.
In order to choose, for example, a TV series, you must first perform a strange dance, according to the new Tiktok trend.
But one who won’t buy into the trend is social media expert Daniel Paris.
– No TV series is worth me standing and dancing, he says.
If you want something, you might usually ask nicely, argue or offer a favor. But on TikTok, a new tactic has emerged. You get what you want, but first you have to perform a dance.
– You might dance for a partner or for your mother or father if you want a higher weekly allowance. It is used as hard currency to get their way, says social media expert Daniel Paris.
You can sleep over – if you dance
The girl who made one of the first videos gave her roommate’s boyfriend an ultimatum. If he wanted to sleep over, he first needed to do an “interpretive dance”, i.e. “free dance”. The boyfriend dances nicely, without any real choreography, and is then approved to spend the night. Daniel Paris believes that the simple concept made the trend viral.
– The other dances on TikTok require some preparation. A free dance like this you do exactly as you feel, and that’s the charm. This means that more people get involved, says Daniel Paris.
Every dance is unique
Now there are around 30,000 clips of the trend on TikTok, but no two dances are alike. All dances are made to the same sound, but without definite choreography, each dance becomes unique. In one clip, a boyfriend makes high shots to get his girlfriend to let him play video games. In another, a boy goes crabbing to get more snacks from his mother.
– Funny idea, I think! I hope my kids are watching, says Tilde de Paula.
The celebrities hook up
Even celebrities have picked up on this trend. On TikTok, Sex and the City actress Kristine Davis dances to make the workday start a little later. We don’t know if it worked, but generally the dances seem to be successful. Even so, the method is not for everyone.
– No TV series is worth me standing and dancing, says Daniel Paris, and is agreed by Axel Pileby.
