The Tax Agency’s call for winter – watch out for this

The Tax Agencys call for winter watch out for

As winter draws closer, it’s tire changing time for Sweden’s car owners, and it’s becoming increasingly common that car owners don’t take care of this management themselves at home on the driveway.

This means that every autumn there is also high pressure at the country’s many tire changing companies.

During checks last fall, the Tax Agency discovered extensive fraud in the industry, and therefore they are now issuing a call to Sweden’s car owners.

The Tax Agency’s call for winter

In connection with the controls last autumn, almost half had to pay control fees because they had not registered all their purchases in the cash register, or because everyone who worked at the workplace was not registered in the personnel register.

Although most tire changing companies, according to the Swedish Tax Agency, pay the correct taxes and fees, based on the controls, it is believed that many choose not to follow laws and regulations.

Therefore, the authority gives the following three tips to Swedish car owners, to contribute to healthy competition and reduced cheating.

Check if the price is reasonable

According to the Swedish Tax Agency, the first thing a car owner should do before hiring a tire changing company is to investigate whether the price is reasonable.

An unreasonably low price can mean that the company is cheating on taxes and fees, or that the employees are being exploited by the employer.

Always ask for a receipt

According to the Swedish Tax Agency, it is also important that you as a customer always ask for a receipt for the work carried out. Then you can be sure that the payment has been entered into the cash register.

For the majority of companies, they must give you as a customer a receipt for your purchase, as well as register the purchase in the cash register.

This applies regardless of whether you pay by card, Swish or cash. You as a customer should not have to ask for a receipt, but the seller should offer it to you.

In many cases, when you pay by card, you get both a receipt from the card machine and from the till, which means that the two systems are not connected. A receipt that comes out of the card machine only shows that the transaction has taken place, but cannot be equated with a cash receipt.

Check out the company

The Swedish Tax Agency also advises that it is good to check the company in question to see if it is approved for F tax, if it is VAT registered, and if it is a registered employer.

This can be done through the authority’s “Get company information” service, by filling in the company’s organization number and your email address.

You will then receive a short email in response with information about the company.
