Medical structures targeted twice – in the month of November And last July –, a child shot dead at a water distribution point, sanitary facilities and drinking water points vandalized or machine-gunned: while there was already no shortage of reasons for discouragement, the sudden death of one of the employees of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Djibo, on September 2, in circumstances that are still unclear, provided the NGO with a new argument to temporarily withdraw from this town in the north of Burkina Faso.

Announced in a press release published Monday October 21, the organization’s decision also provides new proof of the daily difficulties encountered by NGO national and international to provide material, health and food support to populations caught in the trap of terrorism in the country.

An insecurity that spares no region

When we cannot have daily access to carriers, supplies are not regular, so there are inevitably difficulties, explains Souleymane Drabo who is a member of the Permanent Secretariat of Non-Governmental Organizations (SPONG). Because of insecurity, security and defense forces must also increase travel and secure convoys : this has an impact on populations », continues he.

However, this insecurity which weighs on the operations and members of NGOs spares no region. On September 5, for example, two employees of Action Against Hunger (ACF) disappeared in Ouagadougou, before reappearing two weeks later.
