Western countries predict that Putin will use the meeting for propaganda purposes.
Russia will host the three-day Brics summit in Kazan starting today. Leaders from about a dozen countries and the Secretary General of the UN will arrive António Guterres.
In Western countries, the meeting is held between the President of Russia Vladimir Putin as a company shows that the country is not isolated internationally. The Brics meeting is the largest international meeting organized in Russia since the start of the war of aggression in February 2022.
Brazil, Russia, India and China founded the Brics group in 2009. Later, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates and Iran joined the group. Saudi Arabia has also been invited to become a member.
Among others, the president of China will arrive in Kazan Xi Jinping and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.
In addition to the actual members of the Brics group, representatives from more than ten countries will arrive in Russia, who aspire either to become members of the group or to cooperate with it. The most interesting of these participants will probably be the president of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Turkey has supported Ukraine in the war, but at the same time maintained contacts with the Russian leadership.
Turkey is also a member of NATO, but still announced in September that it wants to join the Brics group.
Perhaps the most controversial is the participation of UN Guterres in the Kazan meeting, which was hosted by Russia, which blatantly violated the UN Charter with a war of aggression. It is feared that Russia will use Guterres’ presence for its own propaganda purposes.
