According to information obtained from Hamas sources, it was claimed that the group will not appoint a new leader to replace Yahya Sinwar, and will instead be governed by an administrative committee based in Doha, the capital of Qatar, until the elections planned to be held in March. It was stated that the committee established after the assassination of former Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniye in Tehran will temporarily take over the leadership of the group.
THE COMMITTEE HAS THE AUTHORITY TO MAKE STRATEGIC DECISIONS
The committee, whose duty is to “manage the plans of the group during war and exceptional circumstances and in the future” and “take strategic decisions”, is composed of Gaza Representative Khalil al-Hayya, West Bank Representative Zaher Caberin, Palestinians Abroad Representative Khalid Meshaal, Shura Advisory Council Chairman Mohammed Derviş and, for security reasons, It was learned that it consisted of an unnamed political bureau secretary. While it was noted that all members of the committee were in Qatar, it was stated that the option of determining a representative leader, whose name would not be disclosed to the public, but managing Hamas through the administrative committee was also on the table.
