An imam living in the United States Fethullah Gülen has died, the Turkish NTV and CNN Türk channels say. President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has accused him of ordering the failed coup in 2016. Gülen has repeatedly strongly denied the accusations.
The coup attempt led to a large-scale purge in the Turkish administration, army and the rest of society.
