The death toll rises after Israel’s attack

Gaza bombed again • Death toll rises • Authorities: “A massacre”

The death toll rises after Israel’s attack on the densely populated town of Beit Lahia in Gaza yesterday.
Close to 90 people are either dead or missing. Many of them are children.
– We heard children’s screams and saw that the neighbors had been bombed, says eyewitness Ahmed Al Hajeen to TV4 news.

The search operation for missing people in the ruins continues after Israel air bombed the town of Beit Lahia on Saturday. So far, at least 87 people have been killed, Palestinian authorities report.

The death toll is “exaggerated”, claims Israel. At the same time, alarm reports come from several hospitals that are full of dead and injured, some of them reportedly children.

– It was a massive bomb attack on a residential area full of civilians and refugees. The victims were children and women, says eyewitness Ahmed Al Hajeen to TV4 news.

“Our neighbors are bombed”

About 40 people are injured and dozens more are believed to be stuck in the rubble. The authorities in Hamas-controlled Gaza describe the attack on several residential buildings as a massacre.

– It was raining down on us. We rushed out when we heard women and children screaming and saw that the neighbors had been bombed, says Ahmed Al Hajeen.

Personnel at risk

On Sunday, the WHO tried to deliver fuel, blood, food and medical equipment to Kamal Adwan, one of the affected hospitals, according to Secretary-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

– The hospital’s water tank and electricity network have been damaged and patients and staff are in danger, he stated in a press release on Sunday according to several media.
