He is considered by many to be Sweden’s best hockey player of all time.
We are of course talking about Peter “Foppa” Forsberg.
But when he himself gets to choose the best of all time in Swedish hockey, it will be a completely different answer.
There are not very many hockey players who reach the same high level as Peter Forsberg reached during his prime as a hockey player. “Foppa” can show off an incredibly impressive track record from his fantastic hockey career that has gone down in history.
Forsberg’s career
Even as a teenager, everyone saw that Forsberg had greatness in him, and after several great years in Sweden with the parent club Modo and scoring records in the JVM, the world was at his feet. In 1995, Foppa entered the NHL and that would be the start of a mighty success story.

Peter Forsberg scored an incredible 885 points in 708 games in the NHL and won two Stanley Cup titles with the Colorado Avalanche. The Swedish icon also won prestigious awards such as the Calder Trophy, Art Ross Trophy and Hart Trophy during his time in North America.
Best ever
When Forsberg gets to choose his favorite moment from his playing career, it is a most unexpected choice.
– I usually never differentiate between the WC, the Olympics and the Stanley Cup. It’s just as fun. But apart from that, it is a very strong memory when we won the Modocupen. I was fifteen years old then. We beat Djurgården in the quarter and Björklöven in the final. It was 2-1 in overtime and Håkan Jonsson scored the goal. It runs deep, says the legend.

When the newspaper Sportmagasinet in December 2006 named Sweden’s 100 best hockey players of all time, it was Foppa who took first place ahead of greats who have passed away Börje Salming and the Tre Kronor teammates Mats Sundin and Nicklas Lidström.
– Of course it’s great fun to be voted number one, he says about first place.
But if Peter Forsberg himself gets to choose Swedish hockey’s very best player ever, three names in particular come to mind.
– It’s difficult for me to compare, because I haven’t seen everyone play. But Börje Salming absolutely has to be there. And Mats Sundin. I have to get a back and a forward. No, by the way, Nicklas Lidström also has to join. I think the three are impossible to separate, he tells the newspaper.
