Kuopio Palloseura ended their season with a historic victory and took the Finnish championship on their home field.
Cheering chants and drums echoed in the dark evening as Kuopio Palloseura’s Fanikatsomo cheered their team on to victory. KuPS beat HJK 1–0 on their home field and took the Finnish championship for themselves.
The yellow-black procession left the corner of the square towards the football stadium already before four, and shouts echoed from the walls of the buildings:
– For me, I sing here and follow anywhere. Through the whole of Finland and far into Europe!
On Saturday, the fans got to witness the historic victory. The last time KuPS sealed the Finnish championship on its home field was 68 years ago, i.e. 1956. KuPS’s previous Finnish championship came in 2019.
This season was also exceptional because KuPS also holds the Finnish Cup championship trophy.
The victory was celebrated on the field and in the stands, after which the fans moved to the center.
From Kuopio Tuomas Tossavainen arrived at the square after the game to wait for the champions. Even the October night didn’t manage to cool down the party atmosphere
– Today we will pull it all the way to the end, Tossavainen promises.
