In Japan, the party office of the country’s prime minister’s party was attacked with a petrol bottle on Saturday.

According to the police, the 49-year-old man threw several petrol bottles at the office of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) in Tokyo and then crashed his car into the fence of the Prime Minister’s residence.

No one was reportedly injured in the incident. Police arrested Atsunobu as Usuda at the scene of the named suspect.

The motive for the attack was not immediately clear. However, the Japanese media report on the suspect’s social media publications, based on which the motive would seem political.

Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party has recently lost popularity. At the end of last year, the party was hit by a corruption scandal, and party members have been accused of, among other things, tax evasion and questionable sources of funding.

The party got a new leader in September Shigeru Ishibanwho also became the country’s new prime minister.

On Saturday, the Liberal Democratic Party refused to comment on the attack on the party office.
