Ottawa Guitar Trio coming to St Andrews

The acclaimed Ottawa Guitar Trio will perform in Chatham at St. Andrew’s United Church on April 23 as part of the Saturdays at 7 series.

This trio promotes the versatility of the classical guitar and pushing the boundaries of guitar trio repertoire.

According to a release, the concert will feature arrangements from classical music to movie soundtracks, video game scores and original music, as they “highlight the accessibility of classical music to modern audiences.”

The trio consists of Nathan Bredeson, Alex Bougie and François Lacelle.

“They challenge themselves to authentically adapt a wide array of repertoire, be it originally for solo piano, chamber music, electronic compilations or orchestral compositions,” the release stated. “They also pride themselves in showcasing pieces by local as well as up-and-coming composers.”

The trio, which made their debut in 2018, has performed such venues as Rideau Hall, the Ontario Art Gallery and Dominion Chalmers United.

The 7 pm concert will be presented to live and virtual audiences. Tickets are not required for those attending in person. Masks are optional. The concert can also be viewed on Facebook live at www.facebook.com/standrews/live.

Donations (suggested $15) will be accepted at the door or online to support St. Andrew’s music program. All are welcome.

On May 14, the Simply Sondheim concert will celebrate the life of one of the greatest musical theater composers. On June 11, A Time to Celebrate concert will close off the ninth season. The tenth season of Saturdays at 7 will be announced at that event.
