(Finance) – Sparkle received the “Project of The Year – Subsea, Terrestrial, Satellite and/or Wireless” award at the Global Connectivity Awards (GCA) ceremony, which was held last night in London as part of Capacity Europe 2024 to celebrate the results achieved in the global wholesale telecommunications sector in the last year. In their 20th edition, the GCA recognize innovation, vision and excellence in the global telecommunications industry.
With il “Project of the Year” the jury – made up of a group of over twenty independent sector experts – awarded Sparkle for its BlueMed submarine cable system which extends from Italy to Jordan. BlueMed was recognized as “the most ingenious, visionary and impactful infrastructure project”.
With four fiber pairs and an initial capacity of more than 25 Terabits per second (Tbps) per pair, BlueMed represents a significant evolution in global connectivity, distinguishing itself from traditional submarine cables in terms of diversification, scalability and latency between Europe, Africa and the Middle East .

BlueMed – the note concludes – connects Italy with France, Greece and several countries bordering the Mediterranean. It is part of the Blue & Raman submarine cable systems – created in partnership with Google and other operators active since Middle East up to Mumbai in India – which are among the first projects under construction of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) established at the G20 summit in September 2023.
