Nets are set up in the Riksdag after the tomato attack

Nets will be set up for parts of the audience gallery in the Riksdag after activists threw a bag of tomatoes at the foreign minister.

This is what Speaker Andreas Norlén tells TT.

The net should be in place next week and is a temporary solution. There will also be an increased police presence, according to the speaker.

The decision comes after an extraordinary meeting on Thursday morning where the group leaders gave answers and comments about issues from the security department.

Several meetings about security in the Riksdag – mainly about the chamber and the audience gallery – have been held after pro-Palestinian activists threw a bag of tomatoes at Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard (M) during a debate on 3 October.

In about a week, the foreign minister will debate the development in the Middle East again, and until then the solution must be in place.
