  • US attacked Huthi targets in Yemen

    The United States has carried out airstrikes against several military targets in Yemen belonging to the Iran-backed Houthi movement, reports ABC News.

    The attacks are said to have taken place against several weapons depots, an American defense source told the American television company. The weapons are said to have been used in attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, according to the source.

    The Houthi movement, which controls large parts of Yemen after civil war in the country, has attacked civilian ships in the international shipping lanes off its coast since the Gaza war broke out.

    The Iran-backed movement has also shelled Israel from Yemen on several occasions.

    The cheetah Cannelle at Dyreparken in Norwegian Kristiansand has given birth to four cubs – in a birth broadcast live on YouTube. The number of cheetahs in the world is drastically decreasing. Cannelle’s birth is described as unique, as cheetahs are extremely selective when it comes to choosing a partner.

    Both the new mother and the cubs, who are her first, are said to be doing well.

    – She seems calm and relaxed. It’s nice to see, says zookeeper Olav Åsland.

  • Ukraine receives 49 older tanks

    Australia is donating 49 tanks of an older model to Ukraine, the country’s Ministry of Defense says.

    The American-made M1A1 tanks, equipped with heavy firepower, were supposed to be decommissioned starting next year.

    “We stand side by side with Ukraine in their fight against Russia’s illegal invasion,” Australian Defense Industry Minister Pat Conroy said in a statement.

  • Quarrelsome couple triggered flood

    A couple are now wanted by Australian police after two train stations in Melbourne were flooded last week. The couple is suspected of having made out so wildly in a stairwell that they broke a sprinkler.

    State Transport Minister Danny Pearson says it first appeared to be “deliberate vandalism”. But, he continues at a press conference where he can’t help but laugh:

    – After studying surveillance video, it appears that a loving couple, on a staircase, set off a sprinkler.

    But he emphasizes that “the damage is great” after the incident and that the authorities are now looking for the guilty couple.

    The floods caused problems in public transport.

    Liam Payne, former member of One Direction, has died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires.

    That’s what the Argentinian newspaper writes Clarin. The rescue service confirms the death to the newspaper La Nacion.

  • Man dead after shooting in Osby

    Shortly before 10pm on Wednesday evening, the police received a call about a shooting in Osby in Skåne.

    A man in his 20s is found injured at the scene.

    – He was found in the central parts of Osby, at a gas station, says police spokesperson Fredrik Bratt.

    The man is taken to hospital by ambulance.

    – We also have staff at the hospital and have increased security there.

    The injured man, who is in his 20s, has died, the police announced later in the evening on their website. Relatives have been notified. The incident is being investigated as a murder.

    The police have cordoned off the suspected crime scene. No one is arrested.

    On the site downdetector.se several alerted during Wednesday evening about major problems with Telia around the country. Mainly the reports were about the problems with the television services.

    Later in the evening, Telia’s press officer announced that their technicians had solved the problem and that everything should now work as usual.

    The government wants the Swedish wolf population to be reduced to 270 individuals in a first step and in the longer term to consist of a maximum of 170 individuals.

    In a press release, the government writes that the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency will be tasked with reporting to the EU at the next reporting opportunity, which falls in 2025, that the reference value for favorable conservation status for wolves in Sweden is 170 individuals.

    According to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency’s inventory from winter 2023/24, there are currently around 375 wolves in Sweden.

  • New Israeli attacks on the UN force in Lebanon

    The UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon, Unifil, states on Wednesday evening that Israel has again shelled one of the force’s posts in southern Lebanon.

    UN soldiers stationed in the village of Kfar Kila say they witnessed an Israeli tank open fire on one of the force’s watchtowers. The tower and two cameras were damaged in the attack, according to Unifil, which described the shelling as “direct and obviously intentional”

    Several of the EU’s defense ministers want to put more pressure on Israel after the attacks.

  • Hezbollah: Heavy fighting in southern Lebanon

    Hezbollah and Israel’s military are involved in fierce fighting in southern Lebanon, the Iran-backed Shia militia says.

    On Wednesday, Israel again bombed Beirut’s southern suburbs.

    The battles between Hezbollah and Israel are said to be taking place near the village of al-Qawzah in southern Lebanon, and are being fought “at close quarters with various types of automatic weapons”, Hezbollah told AFP.

    At the same time, there are reports of several Israeli airstrikes during the day, which in total killed at least 25 people.

    Among other things, Israel has carried out airstrikes against two municipal buildings in Nabatieh. The attack killed five people – including the city’s mayor, Lebanon’s Ministry of Health said in a statement according to AFP.

    Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemns that municipal buildings were attacked, according to him intentionally, AP writes.

    In the city of Qana, in southern Lebanon, at least 15 people have been killed in Israeli attacks during Wednesday morning.

    A man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of serious infection after a fatal accident north of Stockholm, writes Norrtelje Newspaper.

    During the night of Sunday, a teenage boy was found dead on the E18 in Vallentuna. A man was arrested a few hours later, suspected of causing the death of another and contagion from a traffic accident.

    The man is now being held on probable cause, which is the higher degree of suspicion.

  • Missing man – police appeal for help

    The man is in his 80s and is missing from his home in Hedemora.

    The police write on their website that the man is small in stature, has thin hair, is clean-shaven and wears jeans and possibly a grey/blue/green jacket.

    They ask the public to contact 114 14 if they have information about the man, or 112 if you meet him.

    Russia says it will respond ‘in a painful way’ after cuts to embassy staff in Norway, writes VG citing Reuters.

    Norway has asked Russian diplomats to leave the country by October 17 at the latest.

  • Rain warnings in the Canary Islands

    In the past 24 hours, the Canary Islands in Spain have been hit by heavy rain, writes Canarian Weekly.

    The rain has led to, among other things, disturbances in power lines and traffic accidents.

    Spanish authorities have also issued a weather warning.

    No injuries have been reported, according to the newspaper.

    A representative from the terrorist-classified Palestinian organization PFLP attended the Left Party’s local association in Angered’s annual meeting in February, reports P4 Göteborg, which has read the internal meeting minutes.

    The Left Party announced last week that an exclusion case had been initiated against the chairman of the party’s local association in Angered, Kristofer Lundberg. The main reason is his support for the terrorist-classified Palestinian PFLP.

    Earlier this fall, according to P4 Gothenburg, it was noticed that V’s local association in Angered received a greeting from PFLP during its annual meeting. But now the protocol shows that the association not only received a greeting, but that a PFLP representative was also present.
