Oscar Möller’s new life after his hockey career – can become an expert on television

After being on sick leave for a year, Oscar Möller recently chose to end his hockey career.
Now the Skellefteå icon is looking forward to finding a new way forward.
– Now the rest of life begins, yes… But it feels good, he tells Expressen.

Oscar Moller35, missed the entire last SHL season due to sick leave. During the pre-season, the body had started to give up, he became exhausted and went into the wall. The Skellefteå captain, who was one of the team’s most important players, was forced to pause his career as a 33-year-old.

“Now the rest of life begins”

On October 7 this year, Möller chose to quit for real. He said goodbye to the team’s supporters by writing a personal letter that was published on Skellefteå AIK’s social media channels.

After a few youth years in Spånga and Djurgården, games in the WHL, AHL and NHL (Los Angeles Kings), two years in the Russian KHL and a total of twelve seasons in Skellefteå, the Stockholm native has now been forced to seek a new context.

– Now the rest of life begins, yes… But it feels good. It’s a big change, for sure. I’ve never done anything else in my life. Who am I? What should I do now? All those questions come to you immediately, he says in an interview with Expressen.

Would like to be a TV expert

He is interested in finding out what he could possibly do outside of ice hockey. If he would dare to try something completely new. At the same time, he does not rule out that it may well be that life continues to be very much about the sport he loves.

– I have no idea what will happen. Having found the joy of ice hockey again and coaching my eldest son’s team, I am no stranger to anything in the sport. Then what it will be, I have no idea. There are probably many different ways to go, maybe something about the media, who knows, he says.

Yes, Oscar Möller is actually a bit keen to act as a TV expert at some point in the future. He mentions that the thought of TV4 Play possibly contacting him is tickling, he would definitely consider it. He’s not fed up with hockey anyway, like some players are when they retire.

Not currently moving

Möller originally comes from Spånga in Stockholm, but has lived in Västerbotten for a very long time. He has four children, of which the oldest is 12 and the youngest is 2. Right now, when he is free, he has plenty of time to accompany and support his children when they play sports. At the moment, they are busy with hockey, baseball, dance and basketball, among other things.

It is also not an option to move from Skellefteå because the family has settled there. Even Oscar Möller’s parents have moved up to be close to the grandchildren.

– Now we have lived here long enough that we have created a life for ourselves outside of ice hockey as well. But it’s like everyone else, things happen and then you have to make decisions after that, but right now we’re enjoying ourselves very well here. The children go to school and the mother and father moved up a few years ago. We have a good time, quite simply, he says.
