Wildlife park worker mauled by lions in Crimea | News in brief

There was nothing that could be done to save the employee.

Three lions have mauled a zookeeper to death in a zoo located on the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula.

An employee of Safari Park Taiga had gone to clean the lion enclosure, but for some reason the door to another enclosure where the lions were was left open.

The owner of the park says that nothing could be done to save the woman after she was found. The lions had completely mauled him.

A criminal investigation has been launched into the case for possible negligence.

The safari park has about 60 lions and is one of the largest lion enclosures in Europe.

The shelter was opened in 2012 in the former training area of the Ukrainian army.
