The embassy points out that no suspects for the break-in have been identified, but that the residents of Bollnäs should have already drawn their conclusions and singled out the Kremlin as responsible for the break-in, according to statements in the Swedish media.
The Embassy: Turned Paranoid
The embassy criticizes the Swedish media reporting, which they claim has led to Russophobia, combined with the government’s policy leading to paranoia.
“It seems that the propaganda media on behalf of the authorities have brainwashed them so much with Russophobic rhetoric that they have turned into paranoiacs who see nothing but the ‘hand of the Kremlin’ everywhere,” writes the embassy.
Furthermore, the embassy claims that one should not behave so “disrespectfully” towards a neighboring country. “Such rudeness towards Russia is unacceptable!”, writes the embassy.
The police are looking for information
No one has been arrested or is a suspect after the break-in at the water reservoir last week. The incident is being investigated as suspected sabotage and the police have urged those who made observations connected to the incident to get in touch.
“A piece of information that you deem uninteresting can be valuable to the investigation, and the police are extremely keen to get all kinds of information about the incident, both before, during and after it happened. Observations made earlier may also be of interest,” the police write on their website.
On Monday, the municipality announced that the water was drinkable again as the water was serviceable.
The expert: Don’t want to make Russia bigger than they are
The police confirmed to Expressen that you have been in contact with Säpo about the incident. At the same time, the security policy expert Patrik Oksanen at the Frivärld think tank and member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Military Sciences said that parallels with Russia should not be drawn too soon.
– It is important that we do not too quickly draw conclusions about what is behind it, after all we neither want to make Russia bigger and more powerful nor to underestimate the threat picture, Oksanen told The Express.
At the same time, Jörgen Holmlund, a teacher in intelligence analysis at the Norwegian Defense Academy, said that it should not be ruled out that a foreign actor is behind it.
– I think it is an example of someone who wants to test our defensive ability. It is far from being ruled out that it is an individual state actor who is trying to do something like this, said Jörgen Holmlund.
