HV71’s general manager Chris Abbott is leaving Swedish ice hockey next year.
The 40-year-old has secured a job with the NHL team Carolina Hurricanes, HV71 writes on its website.
“It is of course sad for us, but we are happy at the same time with Chris to have been given this opportunity,” says HV71’s chairman Anna-Lena Isaksson.
Chris Abbott spent his last two seasons as a player in HV71 and returned to the Jönköping club this spring, when he signed a three-year contract as general manager.
In the spring of 2025, he leaves for his new job in Carolina, where the Canadian becomes part of the NHL club’s management.
“I feel incredibly strongly about HV71 and therefore it has been a difficult decision for me. At the same time, it’s a great chance to get a leading role in an NHL club and I didn’t want to miss that chance,” says Abbott.
