Android 15 finally available how to download it and whats

The latest version of Android 15 is finally available. However, only certain smartphones can access it in preview and we detail the new features.

Android 15 is finally available for our smartphones… Well almost. As usual, Google first favors its own phone brands for the deployment of its new operating system. Android 15 is therefore arriving in preview on Google Pixels. We will therefore have to wait a few more weeks before being able to benefit from Android 15 on other brands like Xiaomi or Samsung. The latter has notably already revealed that the deployment of Android 15 was still planned for the end of 2024.

If your smartphone is compatible with the Android 15 update, go to the “settings” application, then to the “system” tab. You should find the “software updates” option there. Android 15 should then be offered to you. Otherwise, you may have to wait a little longer since the deployment of this new version may be gradual.

What’s new in Android 15?

Android 15 integrates several new features well hidden within your smartphone. In terms of design, no notable change. So you shouldn’t be too upset about installing this new version.

A private space for your sensitive applications

One of the biggest new features in Android 15 is the addition of a “private space”. The latter is designed as a small safe to store applications that you do not want to display on your phone and is only accessible by biometric or code authentication. It is even possible to hide the private space itself so as not to leave any trace of it.

Automatic locking in the event of theft

Android 15 allows your smartphone to use artificial intelligence to detect a case of theft. If the phone detects that someone has stolen your phone and runs away, Android 15 will automatically lock it.

This locking is also possible remotely via another device that you own and linked to the same account as your stolen smartphone.

More controls for foldable tablets and smartphones

If you have a recent Android tablet or a foldable smartphone, Android 15 will give you some additional functions. It will now be possible to pin the applications of your choice to the taskbar or to pair certain applications to automatically launch them together in split view.

Other notable new features

Among other additions in Android 15, Google announces better results for “low light boost” on the camera. This should make it possible to obtain slightly better photos when there is not enough light around your smartphone.

Your messaging apps can also use the satellite connection if no Wi-Fi or mobile network is available around you.

Finally, apps that require a passkey can now be opened with simple tap recognition on your device.

Is my smartphone compatible with Android 15?

As usual, Google reserves its new Android update for its Pixel phones initially. The smartphones and tablets that can now download Android 15 are:

  • Google Pixel 6, 6 Pro and 6a
  • Google Pixel 7, 7 Pro and 7a
  • Google Pixel Fold (not released in France)
  • Google Pixel 88 Pro and 8a
  • Google Pixel 9, 9 Pro and 9 Pro XL
  • Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold
  • Google Pixel Tablet

For devices from other brands, you will have to wait until the end of 2024 and depending on your model.
