Few film series trigger such ambivalent feelings among their fans as the Terminator franchise. While the first two parts are practical are considered sci-fi sanctuariesall of its successors don’t exactly enjoy the best reputation. But Part 4, Terminator Salvation, in particular, absolutely does not deserve this skepticism.
Because the extremely grim sci-fi actioner with the main actors Christian Bale and Sam Worthington focuses the gaze directly on the apocalypse brought about by machineswhich adds an exciting aspect to the Terminator universe. You can see exactly what that looks like on TV tonight.
Dark sci-fi action epic on TV: That’s what Terminator: Salvation is all about
In 2018 there is not much left of civilization. The reason: The Artificial intelligence Skynet years ago triggered a nuclear war and thus took control of humanity. One of the few survivors is resistance fighter John Connor (Christian Bale), who wants to put an end to robot tyranny.
He receives unexpected support from ex-convict Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), who plays a larger key role in the war between man and machine than he would like.
Christian Bale wants to save humanity in Terminator 4
Sure, Terminator Salvation didn’t leave nearly as big a footprint in film history as parts 1 and 2 did. In the end, it felt like more people were talking about Christian Bale’s infamous on-set freakout than about the film itself. However, that doesn’t do justice to the stylish contribution to the franchise directed by action professional McG (Charlie’s Angels).
The fact that the events of Part 4 were placed in the middle of the apocalypse instead of before it was a brave decision by the makers, which at least paid off creatively. So the scenario offered the perfect opportunity threatening atmosphere with dark, intense action to combine. Oscar winner Christian Bale shines as the robust rebel fighter John Connor, although he actually only accepted the role out of spite.
The film also comes with one within the Moviepilot community solid average rating of 6.3 points quite well and is therefore only surpassed in the internal ranking of the Terminator series by the first two parts mentioned at the beginning. So it’s worth turning on.
