(Finance) – Il Council of Ministers will reunite this evening at 8pm to examineamong the various items on the agenda, a legislative decree which provides for the revision of the provisions on excise duties. The integration was officially announced by Palazzo Chigi.

While waiting for the meeting, the questions become increasingly clear guidelines of the economic maneuver that the government intends to carry out. Government sources anticipate that the maneuver should include 5% cuts in ministerial expenses, for a grand total of around 25 billion euros. It should be underlined, however, that no new taxes will be introduced. The deputy prime minister Antonio Tajani he reiterated that there will be no additional taxes and confirmed that the banking sector will contribute to the measure it will be in the order of 3-4 billion euros.

Regarding banks, too Matteo Salvini, deputy prime minister and minister of infrastructure and transport, commented in a note: “The intervention on the banks was good, as the League has always hoped for. Given the 40 billion earnings in 2023 alone, I expect important contributions to support the country and, above all, the national health system.”

Another relevant aspect of the maneuver concerns the rationalization of “tax expenditures”. The government is in fact working on a restyling of tax deductionswith the introduction of a maximum amount modulated based on the family unit, representing a first step towards the “family quotient”. The possibility of lower the income threshold (currently at 120 thousand euros) beyond which the reduction in tax breaks comes into force at 19%.

Finally, another awaited novelty is the extension of the 50% renovation bonus for first homes until 2025avoiding the drop to 36% foreseen by current legislation. The measure was confirmed by Deputy Minister of Economy, Maurizio Leo, with the aim of supporting the construction sector and facilitating owners of first homes.
