At the meeting held within the scope of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Prof. Dr. Sibel Özkan Gürdal stated that breast cancer is among the cancers that can be screened.
Stating that the chance of recovery of patients increases to 90 percent with early diagnosis, Gürdal said, “Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women. This cancer can be prevented by regular mammography and self-breast examination for every woman over the age of 40.” he said.
INCREASED IN RECENT YEARS
Gürdal stated that the incidence of breast cancer in men has increased in recent years.
Explaining that women are more aware of breast cancer, but men are not at the same level of awareness, Gürdal said, “There is a group in which awareness about breast cancer is low, men. Men do not think about the possibility of getting breast cancer at all. However, men can get breast cancer. Breast cancer is more common in men compared to previous years.” .” he said.
Gürdal stated that it is important for men to recognize breast cancer at an early stage.
Emphasizing that early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in men, as in all cancer cases, increases the likelihood of recovery from the disease, Gürdal said:
“Men do not know that they may have breast cancer. When women get a mass or a cyst, they run to the doctor because of the risk of cancer. But when men get a mass, they say ‘it’s a sebaceous gland or a cyst’ and do not think about the possibility of cancer. The incidence of breast cancer in men is increasing. Men get breast cancer.” “He must have enough knowledge about awareness.”
