Armand Duplanti’s world record beaten by Ruth Chepngetich’s new

Armand Duplanti’s world record from last summer was an unparalleled feat.
But not as good as Ruth Chepngetich’s new marathon world record apparently. “Mondo” drops on World Athletics’ ranking list of the best records.
– This is equivalent to jumping 6.27 in the pole vault, says long-distance expert Lorenzo Nesi to SVT Sports.

Armand “Mondo” Duplantis24, had a blast summer. He won EC gold in Rome, Olympic gold in Paris and also broke the Olympic record (6.25 m) with his third jump in the final. Just a few weeks later, he improved his world record by another centimeter.

Duplanti’s record overlooked

We can probably all agree that Armand Duplantis is an incredibly fascinating athlete. He defies the laws of physics and stands for achievements that no human has ever done before.

But apparently his new world record isn’t enough to impress everyone. World Athletics, the international organization for national athletics federations, has made a list to rank results and achievements between different disciplines. “Mondo’s” world record of 6.26 m was prior to yesterday in eighth place in history.

It no longer does. He has been beaten by the Kenyan marathon runner Ruth Chepngetich who broke a new world record on Monday. She is by the smallest possible margin better than our Swedish Olympic gold hero.

– This beats “Mondo” Duplanti’s world record. So this corresponds well to jumping 6.27 in the pole vault then, says the long-distance expert Lorenzo Nesi to SVT Sports.

“I dropped my chin”

Ruth Chepngetich ran her marathon in Chicago in 2.09:56. She beat the old world record by almost two minutes. Previously, the Ethiopian Tigst Assefa held the record (2.11:53). Chepngetich’s personal best was 2.14:18, which is four and a half minutes slower than the new world record.

– I lost my chin. It’s a little incomprehensible, especially the way she did it because she started incredibly fast, 15 minutes in the first 5 kilometers, says Nesi.

– For me, this is the absolute best world record in all categories.
