Maja Dahlqvist reveals why she moved to Trondheim, Norway

She is one of Sweden’s best cross-country skiers, but has moved to Norway to become the best in the world.
Here are Maja Dahlqvist’s new words about why she now lives in Trondheim.
– There are skiers everywhere and it’s very cool to see, she says in a video on Instagram.

She has a silver and a bronze from the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. In addition, there have been two gold medals and two bronze medals from the three world championships in which she has participated. Maja Dahlqvist30, is a Swedish sprinter of rank. She has already proven that. The question is whether she can pick it up in time for the WC in Trondheim in February next year?

Lived in Norway for six months

Yes, most skiers have the world championship as their main focus this season. Some sacrifice their participation in the Tour de Ski and cancel World Cup competitions in order to optimize their form in time for the turn of February-March.

One who has really bet against the WC for a long time is Maja Dahlqvist, who is so dedicated that she even settled in the city where the championship will be held. In April, the moving load went to Trondheim. Some probably see it as treason. But the fact is that Maja Dahlqvist chose to move to Norway because it will benefit Sweden in the long run. Her goal is to collect as many medals as possible during the WC 2025.

– The apartment is a little bigger than the one I had in Falun. Ideally, I would have liked another room, now it is a bedroom. But it’s a good start and so far we’re enjoying ourselves. There are a few things to fix, but it feels like home, she told SVT after the move from Falun.

– There are endless training rounds and it’s probably a bit of the cross-country skiers’ Mecca here.

Maja’s new words

When Maja Dahlqvist was recently interviewed on Instagram by the WC’s official account Trondheim25 in collaboration with the Swedish Skiing Association, she had to answer questions about how her move to the west went. Among other things, she was asked to explain why she took her pick and pack this spring to head to Trøndelag.

– For a new environment and for the WC, absolutely, she says.

She also shares that she and the Norwegian skater Ane Appelkvist Stenseth have trained a lot together during the summer and she also strikes a blow because the Norwegian city is fantastic in such a way that there are endless training opportunities, the variety is so great. How is it otherwise to live as a professional skier in Trondheim?

– Absolutely not alone, I must say. There are skiers everywhere and it’s very cool to see, she says.

– I like that the sea is near everywhere, so it’s very luxurious for me. I think it smells like vacation. So I like to go down to the sea, says Maja about what she does in her free time when she is not working out.

It’s good that you have a plan that you follow, Maja. Hopefully it leads to something good, just as you wanted.

Good luck with the new season and, above all, good luck at the WC in February.
