China’s military has begun military exercises near Taiwan, the Chinese Ministry of Defense announced on the night of Monday.
Beijing has not ruled out forcefully forcing Taiwan, which it claims is part of China, under its control and Monday’s large-scale drills are the fourth of their kind in the past two years.
Taiwan has condemned the latest drills as “irrational and provocative” and says it has sent “appropriate forces” in response.

A 49-year-old man has been arrested outside Donald Trump’s campaign rally outside the Coachella Valley in California.
The man was arrested on Saturday. He carried a shotgun, a loaded pistol, a magazine and a fake entry card to the meeting.
“We probably stopped another assassination attempt,” local police Chad Bianco said, according to ABC.

The police were called at 6pm to an address in Kristianstad due to an ongoing assault.
An injured man was found at the scene.
The man has been taken to hospital. The extent of the damage is unclear.
The suspected crime scene has been cordoned off and the police have interviewed witnesses.

Shortly after 8 p.m., the police were called to an address in Årsta in southern Stockholm after reports of loud explosions.
– We received several calls from a property that shots were fired inside a stairwell, says Ola Österling, press spokesperson at the police.
On the spot, the police established that shots had been fired into an apartment.
– People were inside the apartment. No one was injured.
No one is arrested.
– A hunt is now underway for the perpetrators. We have interviewed witnesses who made observations of persons of interest.
An injured man in his 20s came to a hospital in Malmö on Sunday.
Police were then alerted to a residence in Limhamn.
The police suspect that the man was injured with a sharp knife.
The man took himself to hospital. The extent of the damage is unclear.
The incident is being investigated as aggravated assault.
At least 40 people have been injured in a drone attack on a military base in Haifa, Israel, according to Israeli media.
Five people are said to be seriously injured.
According to Defense Minister Gallant, Hezbollah is behind the attack.

Iceland’s government resigns, reports Icelandic media.
The government collaboration between the Independence Party, the Progress Party and the Green Left has ended. This was announced by Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson at a cabinet meeting.

A shooting has taken place in Kvillebäcken in Gothenburg.
A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital by ambulance.
– He was awake and talkative. But I don’t have any further details about the damage, says Fredrik Svedemyr, press spokesperson at the police.
The shots were fired at 5pm on Sunday.
– I don’t have all the details, but the shooting must have taken place outside.
The police are on site at the address.
– We work with information gathering. A suspected perpetrator is said to have left the scene on an electric scooter.
The incident is being investigated as attempted murder and aggravated weapons offences.
No one is suspected or arrested.
A 65-year-old man has been arrested in Malmö on suspicion of assault and gross illegal threats against a group.
Earlier in the day, the man was involved in an incident in central Malmö and the police launched an operation to arrest him.
The suspect was inside a residence and the police used extra deployed personnel.
– It was a large police operation in which negotiators and personnel from the Regional Response Force were involved. I don’t want to go into more details about the operation, but we managed to arrest the man, says Fredrik Bratt, police spokesperson.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson wants the EU to label Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a terrorist after the attack against Israeli targets, he tells The Express.
– This is a really dangerous cocktail, which we have to do something about, and I think the time is now, he says.
The Revolutionary Guard is a military organization that is directly subordinate to the country’s religious leadership and operates both in Iran and around the world.
The organization has been labeled a terrorist in the United States since 2019.

A major rescue operation is underway on the E4 at the height of Häggvik in Sollentuna municipality.
A car has overturned, according to the emergency services.
– It is a person who is affected, says management operator Åsa Sköld.
There is no information on the state of the damage.
Three lanes in the northbound direction have been closed.

US President Joe Biden is expected to travel to Germany next week, according to US government sources.
The visit is planned for Friday and will only last for one day – but Biden’s trip is still considered significant as a previously planned trip had to be canceled due to Hurricane Milton’s progress. Then Biden would have met French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
In addition, a meeting with representatives of countries that support Ukraine in the Russian invasion war was then cancelled. The so-called Ramstein group has previously met at the American military base of the same name.
Developments in the Middle East are also on the agenda at Biden’s meetings with German Chancellor Scholz and President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
