Johan Borgstam, the special representative of the European Union for the Great Lakes region, met the Rwandan head of state, Paul Kagameduring his first visit to Kigali, Saturday October 12. According to a publication from the Rwandan presidency, the discussions between the two men focused in particular on the regional security situation, a subject that Johan Borgstam also discussed with other interlocutors during his stay at the Rwanda.
It was also discussed in particular with the Rwandan Minister of Defense, Juvénal Marizamunda, who was accompanied for this interview by his director of international cooperation, Brigadier General Patrick Karuretwa, and the chief of staff of the army, General Mubarakh Muganga.
A mission to support “ long-term regional solutions to crises and conflicts »
If Brussels has not yet communicated on the content of the discussions in which its envoy participated in Kigali, the European Union had, before the start of Johan Borgstam’s tour, assigned to this mission the objective of supporting the ” long-term regional solutions to crises and conflicts, particularly for the eastern part of the DRC “. At the end of his visit to Kinshasa on Thursday, the Swede had effectively delivered a message to this effect by providing the EU’s support for the Luanda process just before a new meeting organized in this context this Saturday, October 12 as well. It brought together the Rwandan and Congolese foreign ministers in the Angolan capital, under the mediation of theAngola.
