Poland wants to temporarily ban the right to asylum at

The Polish Prime Minister plans to use an extreme measure to resolve the difficult situation on the border with Belarus.

Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk wants to temporarily deny the right to asylum at the border with Belarus.

The reason is that Belarus has been pushing migrants to Poland for years. Despite various attempts, Poland has not managed to influence the situation, which has led to the death of dozens of migrants in the difficult conditions at the border.

In May, a migrant stabbed a Polish soldier across the border. The soldier died of his injuries in hospital.

Now Tusk plans to deny migrants the right to asylum at that border.

– One of the parts of my immigration strategy will be a temporary, regional ban on the right to asylum, Tusk said.

According to Toski, he plans to present his strategy at the board meeting on the 15th. If the country’s parliament approves the measure, Tusk intends to demand that the EU accept Poland’s decision.

It is unlikely that the intentions will face several challenges from the direction of international law. The right to asylum is a human right, which is guaranteed in, for example, the UN Declaration of Human Rights and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights.
