If you’ve always wanted to play as cops in the chase sequences of a GTA game, you should check out the free demo of The Precinct on Steam.
What kind of game is this? The developers of The Precinct call their game a “neo-noir action sandbox”. You play as police officer Nick Cordell Jr. and have to solve crimes in the fictional city of Averno. At the same time, you are investigating a murder case that has to do with your family.

What does the trailer show? The Precinct is played in a top-down perspective, similar to the first GTA from 1997. As a player, you look down on the action from above. The developers promise a lively city that you can explore on foot, in a patrol car or in a police helicopter. Visually, Averno looks like a typical US city on the East Coast.
Chases like in GTA – but you are the pursuer
Crimes in the city are procedurally generated by the game and range from parking violations to bank robberies. In the background, criminal gangs are fighting for dominance in Averno, and you influence their power through your police work.
If a criminal flees the crime scene in a car, you pursue him with a patrol car and police helicopter. And so that you don’t have to deal with the situation alone, you call for reinforcements, for example in the form of a roadblock or special emergency vehicles.
The car and helicopter chases look great – but at the same time, this is where the greatest potential for chaos lies. The environments also contain destructible elements such as fruit crates that lie innocently on the side of the road.

When does The Precinct come out? The game does not yet have a release date, the release on Steam is stated as the 4th quarter of 2024. A playable demo will be available for the “Steam Next Fest”. If you want, you can try The Precinct on Steam for free from October 14, 2024.
