The US wants to see a diplomatic solution to the situation in Lebanon, but at the same time believes that Israel has the right to defend itself against Iran-backed Hezbollah. This is what US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says in connection with a meeting in Laos on Friday:
– We continue our intensive commitment to prevent further conflict in the region.
More than 1,200 people have been killed in Lebanon since Israel stepped up attacks in September, according to Lebanese authorities.
