The hurricane area is divided into different zones, A through D. Residents living in zones A, B and C were urged to evacuate. “If you wanted to evacuate, you had to leave on Tuesday morning, because the roads are filling up quickly,” Lotte explains. She felt anxious during the first few days, Lotte says. “We have experienced hurricanes before, but this is very different,” she says. How does she deal with that fear? “I try to follow objective news and watch a weatherman who explains what is going on with nuance.” She was also reassured by a neighbor. “She has been through hurricanes before. It is not your death sentence if you stay home, she said.” The couple therefore decided to stay home.
