Since 2020, Utrecht Ballroom Scene has been a community in which queer and transgender people of color are central. They organize weekly voguing classes, workshops, balls and other events. “The ballroom scene has existed for a long time, but has not received any attention for a long time. Utrecht Ballroom Scene shows that it is also possible in Utrecht. This is a bit more liberating, especially for young people who had or have a lot of problems. Something like the Utrecht Ballroom Scene did not yet exist in Utrecht,” said the jury.
