Soccer: Several in the U18 national team exposed to racism on social media: “You get sad”

The Swedish P18 national team is gathered in Oliva, Spain. They have played two matches here, against Japan and the USA, and one remains.

Sometimes the players have fun. Among other things, by dancing.

Kalipha Jawla has published a clip on social media where he and three teammates are seen dancing.

The clip has received several racist comments.

– Everything is possible about us going home and questions about why there are so many black people in the national team. But all of us here feel that we are Swedes and I hope that we will be accepted for that. They can write as much as they want, it just gives me fuel to keep scoring, says 18-year-old Jawla, on a weekday in Djurgården.

What do you feel?

– You get sad, but it’s nothing that affects me. I play for Sweden and love Sweden. They can think what they want.

Union captain Andreas Pettersson has not seen the clip or the comments, but condemns the racism.

– If it is that way, then it is something that is not acceptable in any way. Kalipha is a super nice guy and I feel sad for him. I will talk to him and support him if necessary, he says.
