Football: Dejan Kulusevski: “I didn’t understand when Ronaldo told me”

Hear Kulusevski on the insights: “I didn’t understand when Ronaldo told me”

This summer, Dejan Kulusevski, 24, decided to change his training routine. He noticed the effect of that just before the national team break in the 3-0 victory against Manchester United where he was the scorer. In addition, he set a record for the number of chances created by an opponent at Old Trafford – a whopping nine.

– I am getting better and better every day, I have worked hard to be at this level. I’m not shocked, just happy, says Kulusevski at the press conference in Bratislava the day before the meeting with Slovakia in the Nations League group game.

In the club and national team, the Tottenham Swede has always been lined up as a right midfielder. But lately he has been given a central role as an attacking midfielder at the London club. It was long-awaited for Kulusevski, who feels stronger mentally and physically.

“In the beginning he had ideas”

– In the end it was enough to play on the edge. I think I take on a lot more defensive responsibility now, so it might have been difficult before for coaches to put me as a ‘ten’. Because when you’re young, you don’t think it’s important to defend, but today I know that defense is at least as important as attacking, says Kulusevski, who has spoken to national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson about having the same position in the national team.

– In the beginning he had ideas, but then he got to know me and saw me on the field.

Sweden’s meeting with Slovakia in Bratislava in the C division of the Nations League kicks off at 20.45, Friday.
