According to the research, the findings of which were published in the journal “Atherosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology”, scientists from the University of Southern California, the University of California (UCLA) and the Lerner Research Institute in Ohio examined the health records of approximately 250 thousand people in the biomedical database called Biobank in England.

Researchers compared the records of patients who caught Covid-19 in 2020 with the records of more than 222 thousand people who did not contract the disease in the same period.
Stating that, according to records, there were more than 11 thousand people who caught the disease in 2020, before the Covid-19 vaccines were released, the researchers stated that these people had twice the risk of heart attack, stroke and death compared to those who did not catch the disease over the next three years.
Researchers pointed out that approximately 3 thousand of the more than 11 thousand people who caught Covid-19 were hospitalized, and noted that the risk of heart attack, stroke and death was more than three times higher for those who were hospitalized compared to those who did not catch Covid-19.
Researchers stated that the risk of heart attack, stroke and death of those who had Covid-19 disease and were hospitalized due to it did not decrease over time, and stated that it is not yet known why the disease has such long-term effects on the cardiovascular system in the body.
