The first Predator film from 1987 is one of the best Arnold Schwarzenegger films ever. A franchise of several films has emerged from the fight for survival against a particularly dangerous attacker from space. The one probably artistic and commercial low point released in 2018 with Predator – Upgrade.
The sci-fi blockbuster from Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang director Shane Black flopped so hard that the series had to be completely reset afterwards. On Netflix, where the film has recently been available in the streaming flat, the film still made it to number 2 in the film charts.
Now on Netflix: Predator – Upgrade sank at the box office and severely damaged the franchise
In the film’s story, Predators return to Earth in their strongest form yet, thanks to a young boy (Jacob Tremblay). A group of former soldiers therefore joins forces to once again protect humanity from the extraterrestrial threat.

Since Predator is an upgrade heavily focused on family history in an American suburbBlack’s contribution appeared to be much more difficult to reach the target group.
With a budget of 88 million dollars, the sci-fi film only grossed 160 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, which is far too little money. The reviews for Predator – Upgrade weren’t exactly positive either. The blockbuster has a low rating average of 34 percent on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
After the Predator upgrade, you can then stream the better part on Disney+ with a subscription
In order to breathe new life into the science fiction franchise, the prequel Prey was filmed after the flopped Predator upgrade. The film from 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg is set in the 18th century and highlights the Predator threat from the perspective of the Comanche indigenous American people.
The completely different approach of the fifth Predator film was really well received by critics and fans and, in a sense, saved the reputation of the series. After Prey, which you can stream at any time with a Disney+ subscription *, two more Predator films are now planned.
