Hurricane Milton, which hit Florida early Thursday morning Finnish time, weakened to a category two hurricane. Palonen says he won’t sleep until the storm has passed.
Lives in Tampa, Florida with his family Jukka Palonen plans to stay home even though Hurricane Milton is about to sweep right over.
He tells that they have made preparations in advance.
– We have hurricane-resistant doors and windows in the house. If something is flying, it shouldn’t come through. The roofs are also made in such a way that they should last, Palonen says.
According to him, the electricity supply is secured with the help of a generator.
Palonen says that he owns a large seven-hectare plot with several buildings. All possible movables that can fly with the wind have been taken inside, he says.
Palonen says at night Finnish time that it has rained a lot during the last hours. He expects the wind to increase significantly as the storm approaches. He predicts that when a hurricane is at hand, the wind can blow 45–50 meters per second.
Hurricane Milton, which hit Florida early Thursday morning Finnish time, weakened to a category two hurricane.
– Now there is a small backwater phase and then we wait. That eye is coming towards us, says Palonen, whose house is located about 25 kilometers from the beach.
According to him, areas in Tampa are classified on a different scale, for example, in terms of flood risk. Palonen’s plot does not belong to the flood risk area.
He states that sleep does not come until the storm has passed.
